ESMAT are an approved training provider for Mountain Training (MT) which is the national awards body for qualifications in walking, climbing and mountaineering in the UK and Ireland. We run a mountain leader (ML) training course once a year in the spring. The course is priced to cover costs and is run for the benefit of Scouting, although we will accept non-scouting candidates on the course. Members of Essex Scouts may be eligible for funding support (minimum commitment requirements apply) in connection with obtaining permits for hillwalking under the Adventurous Activity Permit Schemes.

Our training course follows the MT syllabus and rules The course consists of two three-day weekends, both of which must be attended to complete the course. The costs do not cover travel to and from the venues or food on the hill.
